The City of Newark, the largest city in New Jersey, struggled with complex, regulatory requirements as well as ordinances related to municipal 5G deployments. This contributed to minimized benefits for the city and its citizens and a loss of value in the city’s investment in vendor services. TeknoGRID leveraged our operational and financial expertise through consultation services for the city’s 5G installation.
We provided recommendations to city staff and regulators on strategies to promote the rapid development and deployment of a web-based application system that is fair to the applicant carriers. TeknoGRID also proposed standardized operating procedures for the city’s regulators and staff that promote transparency and enable the public to express any community concerns regarding the placement, installation, operation, and maintenance of small cell facilities. Our team also partnered with the city to develop a 5G permitting/ordinance framework regulating small cell installation, maintenance, processes and permits.
Through our recommendations, staff and regulators obtained clarity on how to proceed with municipal 5G projects that maximized benefits for the city. TeknoGRID also helped to protect Newark from being locked into long-term contracts with carriers that didn’t best serve the city and its residents. TeknoGRID also provided the City of Newark with a pre-packaged, well defined 5G permitting/ordinance framework to help expedite municipal 5G permitting/FCC shot-clock processes.
